76ers Meet With Iverson

Nov 30, 2009 4:10 PM

The 76ers met with free-agent guard Allen Iverson for two hours on Monday in Dallas.

The team released the following statement:

"This afternoon, we met with free agent Allen Iverson in Dallas for the first formal discussion regarding a possible return to the Philadelphia 76ers. The meeting lasted approximately two hours and covered a variety of topics, all of which we would prefer to keep between the team and Allen," general manager Ed Stefanski said.

"Joining me at the meeting with Allen, his agent Leon Rose and his personal manager Gary Moore was Senior Vice President/Assistant General Manager Tony DiLeo, Head Coach Eddie Jordan and Assistant Coach Aaron McKie.

"At this time, both parties remain non-committal regarding a final decision and we will continue to discuss internally whether or not to pursue this course.

"We want to thank Allen, Leon and Gary for taking the time to meet with us today."

76ers Haven't Contacted A.I.

Nov 30, 2009 7:31 AM

While the 76ers are internally contemplating the possibility of signing free-agent guard Allen Iverson, they have yet to contact anyone in his camp.

A source told the Philadelphia Daily News that general manager Ed Stefanski is weighing the pluses and minuses of signing Iverson, but he hasn't reached out to Leon Rose, the guard's agent, or Gary Moore, his personal manager.

The source did add, however, that Rose has contacted the team to gauge their interest in his client.

"Every other time Rose has called, the Sixers have said no. In the light of [Louis] Williams' injury and the need for an experienced guard, they are at least talking about it," the source told the Daily News.

The belief is that the 76ers will come to a quick decision on Iverson as the rumors have already taken on a life of their own.

Jordan Hasn't Discussed Signing Iverson

Nov 29, 2009 4:39 PM

Philadelphia head coach Eddie Jordan says that he hasn't talked to Allen Iverson about signing with the team.

Jordan went as far as to say that he hasn't even discussed the possibility of signing Iverson with anyone inside the organization.

"It's something that's probably more in the media than it actually is," Jordan said Sunday. "We're just going about our daily operation of practicing and trying to win a game. But certainly I have not talked to anybody about Allen Iverson."

The 76ers have entertained the idea of signing Iverson, who reportedly retired last week, but sources told ESPN.com on Saturday that the guard's return to Philadelphia is not certain and that no face-to-face meetings have been scheduled.

"We have not talked about adding anybody to our team because we still have a good roster," Jordan said.

76ers Interested In Iverson

Nov 28, 2009 8:52 AM

The 76ers are thinking hard about signing free-agent guard Allen Iverson, according to a report.

Iverson, according to Stephen A. Smith, decided to retire earlier this week.

"It's being seriously considered," a Philadelphia team official told Smith in an article for FoxSports.com.

Conversely, a team official told ESPN.com on Friday that the 76ers will not consider signing Iverson in the wake of an injury to guard Louis Williams.

Williams will miss eight weeks of action with a broken jaw.

According to Smith, coach Eddie Jordan is among those within the organization that support signing Iverson.

Sixers Mulling Over Roster Move

Nov 27, 2009 7:07 AM

The 76ers have been hit hard by injuries and general manager Ed Stefanski says he'll at least consider a roster move.

Most recently, Philadelphia lost guard Louis Williams for eight weeks due to a broken jaw.

"We are going to see," Stefanski said of adding a guard. "We have versatility in the backcourt."

The team has 13 players on their roster, with Williams and Marreese Speights (knee) both injured.

Iverson To Retire

Nov 25, 2009 6:06 PM

Allen Iverson's personal manager confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the guard has decided to retire from the NBA.

Iverson, a veteran of 14 NBA seasons, was close to signing with the Knicks last week before the team changed their mind.

"Wonderful career. Right thing to do for his family," Gary Moore, Iverson's manager, told Yahoo! Sports. "It's no secret that Allen has been unfairly treated through all this. The fact is his family needs him more."

League sources insist that Iverson will still listen for offers to return to the court.

Brand Starting To Show Flashes In Philly

Nov 23, 2009 4:00 PM

Elton Brand's numbers have been impressive lately, but 76ers coach Eddie Jordan still isn't sure that he's all the way back from two seasons of injuries.

Brand signed a five-year, $80 million with Philadelphia prior to the 2008-09 season.

In his last three games, Brand is averaging close to 20 points and 10 rebounds, around his career averages, in 38.3 minutes per contest.

The uptick in playing time is strange, because Jordan said last week that the power forward wasn't ready to play 40 minutes.

"No. He's never had 2 years of injuries [before] so he's not a 40-minute player now," Jordan said. "I mean, you can put him out there for 40 minutes, but I don't know how effective he's going to be. I know he won't be effective in those minutes because it's a process with his coming back after 2 years."

Not surprisingly, Brand disagrees.

"I could still play 40 minutes," he stated.

Young Struggling With 76ers' New Offense

Nov 21, 2009 8:28 PM

76ers forward Thaddeus Young is struggling in the team's new offense.

First-year coach Eddie Jordan has implemented his Princeton-style offense.

"It's been hard, I'm not going to lie," Young said. "We'll have certain plays where we're supposed to make a cut and set a screen here, or set a screen there, maybe receive a flare screen after you pass the ball. It's a lot to try to remember on one play. It's going to take time."

Young is averaging just 12.8 points per game on 42.3% shooting this season.

"Repetition," he said. "Keep working on it and working on it and working on it."
