Bosh Questions Shaq's Big Scoring Night

Feb 28, 2009 10:33 AM

Phoenix's Shaquille O'Neal scored 45 points in a win against Toronto on Friday night, and Chris Bosh wasn't very happy about it.

"He was just camping down in the lane," Bosh said after the game. "I mean, if they're not calling three seconds ? I thought it was a rule, but I guess not."

The game marked Shaq's high-scoring effort since he put up 49 for the Lakers against the Celtics on March 21, 2003.

"It was cool," O'Neal said. "Guys were really looking for me. I've been saying all year if I can get those touches like that, I think I can do that every night."

There was only one All-Star MVP trophy, but there were two winners, so who got to keep the hardware?

According to the Arizona Republic, Laker guard Kobe Bryant offered to let Suns center Shaquille O'Neal take home the trophy.  The league will create a duplicate for Bryant.

"He saw my boys were there," O'Neal said. "He saw how they were looking at it, so he was nice enough to say, 'Go ahead and take it.' "

Suns point guard Steve Nash rolled his ankle and had to be helped off the floor in the third quarter of a win over the Bobcats on Tuesday night.

"It's a little swollen and sore, but it's something we'll have to reassess in the morning," Nash said. "If I had to guess, I would say it's not going to be a long-term thing."

He rolled the ankle while attempting a three-point shot.

Gentry Considers Adding Mark West As Assistant

Feb 24, 2009 5:53 PM

Suns coach Alvyn Gentry is considering adding Mark West to help him out, the Arizona Republic is reporting.

West is currently the team's vice president for player programming.

"Yeah I've thought about that," Gentry said of adding West to his staff. "We'll see where it takes us. I have him helping out with practice. He's another good guy for Robin (Lopez) and Lou (Amundson) and those guys to bounce stuff off. The guy has a really good basketball mind. I coached him in '94-95 in Detroit. There's nothing definite yet but I like having him at practice."

Bell Never Worked Well With Porter

Feb 24, 2009 2:50 PM

Charlotte guard Raja Bell will face Phoenix, his old team, on Tuesday night and opened up in a radio interview about his time in the desert.

"This Phoenix organization, the town and the fans hold a real dear place in my heart. It was a really great opportunity for me four years ago here," Bell said.

He also touched on his troubles with now former coach Terry Porter.

"Steve Kerr said it best when he said that sometimes when you move things get lost in that move and I kind of felt that I was one of the pieces that might have got lost in the move," Bell added. "I never really found a way to work with Terry and I don't think Terry ever really found a way to work and communicate with me. I'm not blaming Terry, it's just as much my fault as anyone's. It just was a situation that once we got deep enough into it, it just obvious that it wasn't working."

Ultimately, the Suns returned to an up-tempo style after Porter tried to infuse a half-court system.

"It is a bit frustrating to see that ultimately they decided to take that route and some of the things that I was trying to share with them. I tried to say things in my way that I didn't feel like we were in the best positions to succeed with what we had.  Whether I went about that right or not, I'm sure I could have walked on eggshells more than I did, but ultimately I don't think they wanted to hear it when I had to say it."

Bell said ?there?s no question? he would still be on the team if the Suns stuck to the up-tempo style after last year?s first-round playoff exit.

Rondo Enjoys Suns' Style Of Play

Feb 23, 2009 8:59 AM

Rajon Rondo was drafted by the Suns before a trade that sent him to the Celtics, and faced his first NBA team on Sunday night.

"I don't think too much about that," said Rondo, who scored a career-high 32 points against Phoenix on Sunday.

"I love the style of play," Rondo said. "The way they play it's to my advantage, to play up-tempo type point guard. But [if he remained a Sun] I probably wouldn't be doing what I'm doing now, wouldn't have a championship. I'd be playing a lot less minutes, playing behind Steve [ Nash], learning a lot. You never know - this is a great system, to my advantage, but I'm happy the team I'm with now."
