Nash Reflects, Rips Gasol Trade

Jul 29, 2009 3:48 PM

Having just signed a contract extension with the Suns, Steve Nash took just a few seconds to look back on the last few years.

"You know what? I enjoy life too much to look back a lot," Nash told the Arizona Republic of his five years with the Suns. "I have too much to look forward to each day, too much left to accomplish and work for. Yeah, it's a shame and it hurts, if I take a minute to stop and think about it. But I don't really have any regrets, and I look forward to continuing to improve and being part of a great environment and a great team."

As positive and forgiving as Nash sounded, he proved that he could be bitter too.

"No one gave us Pau Gasol for nothing," he added.

Nash was referring to a February 2008 trade between the Grizzlies and Lakers. Los Angeles acquired Gasol and a 2010 second round pick from Memphis for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, the rights to Marc Gasol and two future draft picks.

Nash: Shaq Will Be Great Fit With Cavs

Jul 29, 2009 7:01 AM

Steve Nash believes that Shaquille O'Neal will fit in great with LeBron James and the Cavaliers.

"I think he realizes that he's not in the prime of his career, so to speak," Nash told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Nash played with O'Neal for a little more than a season in Phoenix.

O'Neal is "still a great player, but LeBron is going to be the focal point," the point guard said. "I think he's happy with that. At the same time, he'll get a lot of opportunities to be in the spotlight, and he's great at it."

Nash added that he doesn't think the Suns will trade Amare Stoudemire.

"I don't see him leaving," he added. "I just see him having a phenomenal career and being in Phoenix a long time."

Suns, Nash Announce Two-Year Extension

Jul 27, 2009 4:25 PM

Steve Nash said on Monday that it would be a pleasure to finish off his NBA career as a member of the Suns.

Nash had one year at $13 million left on his contract, but agreed to terms with Phoenix on a two-year extension worth $22 million to keep him in the desert through the 2011-12 season.

He considered leaving the Suns after the season, but after mulling over other offers Nash didn't feel as though he had a better shot to win a title anywhere else.

New Suns Deal Depends On Amare's Health

Jul 15, 2009 7:09 AM

The Suns want to see how Amare Stoudemire does in his return from eye surgery before offering him a contract extension.

Stoudemire missed the remainder of the season after an operation on Feb. 20 to repair partially detached retina. He underwent another procedure last week as part of the recovery process.

"I think everything looks great, but before you make that kind of a financial commitment, or any commitment in this league, you have to know that your player is fine and ready to go," Suns general manager Steve Kerr said on Tuesday. "I'm on the same page as Charlie [Grantham, Stoudemire's agent] and Amare. We need to see Amare on the court in October and see that everything's going to be OK, which we fully expect. Before we make that kind of commitment, you'd better be sure."

Stoudemire said last week that he believes he deserves a maximum extension. He can become a free agent after next season, but he has said that he'd like to remain in Phoenix.

The Suns have fielded offers for him this offseason, but could sign him to an extension at any point next season if they opt to keep him.

"We need to see him play," Kerr said. "Charlie knows that. Amare knows that. Obviously, the eye situation was more serious than what we first thought. The recovery time has taken longer."
