The Sacramento Kings have agreed to sign Ade Murkey to a 10-day hardship deal.
Murkey had been playing for the Kings' G League affiliate in Stockton, averaging 11.7 points and 3.1 rebounds in 26.7 minutes over 12 games this season.
The Sacramento Kings are one of many teams to have been hit hard by COVID in recent days. The Kings have six players currently out due to health and safety protocols. Because of the absences, Sacramento signed guard Justin Robinson to a 10 Day contract via the hardship exception.
Robinson signed on Friday and played 7:21 that night behind starter Tyrese Haliburton. Robinson and Haliburton are the only healthy ballhandlers on Sacramento's roster.
The Kings other two main point guards, De'Aaron Fox and Davion Mitchell are both in the health and safety protocols.
De'Aaron Fox has entered the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
Fox joins Alvin Gentry, Terence Davis and Marvin Bagley III as members of the Sacramento Kings in protocols. More positive cases from the Kings are expected.
Fox is averaging 21.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists.
Alvin Gentry has tested positive for COVID-19 and won't coach on Wednesday versus the Washington Wizards.
Gentry was elevated to interim head coach of the Sacramento Kings in November to replace Luke Walton.
The Kings canceled morning shootaround to test the rest of the team.
Mike Longabardi and Doug Christie are the most likely candidates to fill-in for Gentry.
Despite their poor record this season, the Sacramento Kings are looking to add to their roster for a postseason push. Sacramento has been linked to several players, including Ben Simmons, Domantas Sabonis and Myles Turner on the trade market.
As of now, there are no indications the Kings have held serious discussions with the Pacers on Sabonis or Turner, but that could change at any time. As for Simmons, Sacramento is one of several teams linked to the Philadelphia 76ers absentee star.
The package Kings GM Monte McNair seems to be shopping most in talks is Marvin Bagley and Buddy Hield. Bagley has mostly been out of the rotation for Sacramento this season. His agent requested a trade when the Kings informed Bagley that he was a part of their plans any longer.
Hield has been a rotation mainstay, but is part of a deep guard group. Sacramento has started De'Aaron Fox and Tyese Haliburton all season, and also has promising rookie Davion Mitchell coming off the bench. Because of size and defensive issues, it's hard for the Kings to work Hield into three-guard lineups, thus the trade speculation.
The Philadelphia 76ers have ramped up their efforts to trade Ben Simmons.
The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers are among the teams interested in Simmons.
It is unclear, however, how much traction the 76ers have on a potential trade. The 76ers are currently asking teams for an All-Star-caliber player and/or multiple first-round draft picks for Simmons.
Simmons has yet to play for the 76ers this season as he's expressed the sentiment that he's not mentally ready to rejoin the team.
Richaun Holmes underwent a successful procedure on Thursday to repair a right eye laceration.
Holmes suffered the injury during Wednesday's game.
Holmes will miss at least the next two games for the Sacramento Kings.
