Sources: Blazers Lead Pursuit Of Turkoglu

Jun 30, 2009 1:14 PM

Sources indicate that Portland, who has cleared additional cap space, is leading the charge to sign Hedo Turkoglu, while another suitor could include the Raptors.

Orlando acquired Vince Carter via trade last Thursday as insurance in case they were unable to re-sign Turkoglu.

Marion's Free Agency Will Dictate Toronto's Summer

Jun 30, 2009 1:11 PM

The Raptors haven't ruled out re-signing Shawn Marion and what happens with him may dictate their entire free agency.

The Raptors will likely offer $21 million over three seasons.

"If it gets to the point where we're not comfortable with the proceedings [regarding Marion] I may use the space to go another way, either to acquire a player in a trade or by signing someone with the free-agent money," Bryan Colangelo said. "I have to be open-minded to that because if we're not getting anywhere with Shawn and there's not a deal we like in a sign-and-trade scenario then utilizing the money is certainly an option."

Colangelo would then have $10 million to spend and could potentially sign Hedo Turkoglu.

Teams Inquire With Raptors About Parker

Jun 27, 2009 9:48 AM

A number of teams have asked about guard Anthony Parker, according to league sources.

Parker, 34, is unlikely to return to Toronto, especially after the team drafted DeMar DeRozan with the 9th pick.

The Spurs, Celtics, Suns, Cavaliers and Thunder have reportedly asked about Parker, who will become a free agent on July 1st.

Parker, who is looking for one last lucrative contract, could return to the Euroleague if he is unable to get a suitable contract from an NBA team.

Raptors Face Draft With Uncertainty In Free Agency

Jun 23, 2009 9:36 AM

As the Raptors prepare for the 2009 NBA Draft, they must do so while not knowing which of their free agents will return to the club next season.

Shawn Marion, Anthony Parker and Jake Voskuhl are unrestricted free agents, while Carlos Delfino is a restricted free agent. Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Joey Graham will be unrestricted free agents if the team doesn?t tender a qualifying offer by June 30.

?It?s a little bit of a guessing game but we do have a strategy of what we?re going to do in the free agent market,? Raptors senior director of player personnel Jim Kelly said. ?I?m sure as we get closer to the draft, maybe with trades or something else, well know if were going down the right path or not.?

Raptors Not Getting Good Offers For Bosh

Jun 21, 2009 3:50 PM

The Raptors haven't been overwhelmed by any offer they have received for All-Star forward Chris Bosh.

Toronto isn't known to be actively shopping Bosh, but it is believed that he could be had for a stellar offer.

Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo said in a radio interview last week that even if Bosh wants to leave, orchestrating a sign-and-trade would still be the best option for both the player and the team.

Toronto Hoping To Sign-And-Trade Bosh

Jun 19, 2009 4:41 PM

Toronto general manager Bryan Colangelo feels as though the team's best course of action is to sign-and-trade Chris Bosh.

Bosh will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2009-10 season, which puts the Raptors in a difficult spot.

"We'll have the discussion, we'll talk about the pros and the cons, he'll most likely not sign it, and then we'll get in to next season, we'll figure out where we are," Colangelo said in an interview with The Fan 590 in Toronto.

"In respect to the situation for him, there will be a handful of teams next year - I'm guessing between five and ten - which will have maximum allowable free agent money, which means Chris is subject to walk to one of those deals. But, I have to reiterate the point that keeps being overlooked - we're the only team that can offer him a full six years versus five years, 10.5% increases versus 8% increases ... Basically equates to a $30 million dollar difference. So, even if he wants to leave, he's still better served, and we're better served if he works a sign-and-trade with us where we can get some sort of an asset back from the team that he's going to. And, I think that's probably the thing that we'll both push for because he'll benefit from it and we'll benefit from it, and that's why it's probably not time to panic now and make a bad deal."

Colangelo Hints At Who Raptors Might Take

Jun 19, 2009 4:16 PM

Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo hinted at who the team might draft in a recent radio interview.

Toronto has the ninth overall pick in next Thursday's NBA Draft.

"We're looking really at the guard and wing position ... A couple of point guards, a couple of wings, and maybe one small forward that we'd be looking at," Colangelo told The Fan 590 in Toronto. "The two wings would be DeMar DeRozan and Gerald Henderson, the two point guards would be Jrue Holiday, and Jonny Flynn, and you're probably looking at James Johnson as a possibility who was a great player at Wake Forest this past year, came out early and he's another talented player we would consider there."

Bosh: 2010 Has Thousands Of Possibilities

Jun 18, 2009 12:44 AM

Chris Bosh gave his most extensive quotes about his looming free agency this week in an interview with Fox Sports Radio.

"As of right now, I'm not sure," said Bosh when asked about possibly coming to the Heat.  "I like Miami, don't get me wrong. But I don't know what comes along with being a part of that organization. I don't even have any friends in Miami, which was the funniest part. A close friend of mine hit me yesterday and was like 'Hey there?s another article out' and I was like 'What now?' 'Apparently a friend in Miami said you're going to Miami.' He sent me the article and I read it, and I'm like, 'now they?re just making stuff up.'"

Bosh was then asked about his 2010 free agency class.

"You know the crazy thing about it is, I got that question a lot this year," said Bosh.  "I can only imagine how next year is going to be.  Its like '2010 is coming up, you are going to be a free agent. Where are you going to go? Come here.' Every city I?m in, they ask me to play for their team. It?s something to deal with, and I think sometimes you just have to set the record straight. What do you want me to do? I don?t know where I am going. I don?t know what the future holds. What might be good today may not be good tomorrow. I guess it's a lot of fun for some people because it's speculation. It's thousands of possibilities because there are going to be a lot of free agents that year."
