Andrew Wiggins Plans To Remain With Wolves For 'Very, Very, Very Long Time'

Mar 19, 2015 1:30 AM

Andrew Wiggins has already been mentioned as a potential addition for the Toronto Raptors due to the franchise being his home team.

However, Wiggins expects to remain with the Minnesota Timberwolves long term.

“I love Minnesota,” Wiggins said. “They treat me nice up there. I plan to be there a very, very, very long time.”

To earn free agency, Wiggins would, theoretically, have to turn down a large contract extension from Minnesota following the 2016-17 season and eschew the restricted free agency process.

Lou Williams Has Already Tried For Extension, Wants To Re-Sign With Raptors

Mar 10, 2015 3:45 PM

Lou Williams has thrived this season as a bench scorer for the Toronto Raptors.

Williams would like to re-sign with the club as he hits the open market this summer.

"I already tried to get them to go do it -- get an extension. But at this point in my career, I want to play somewhere where the fans appreciate you, your team is serious about winning and create something special. And these guys are bulldogs. They love competing. We have that us against the world mentality where nobody respects us because we're in Canada. We have an identity, and I love it.

"It's perfect for my personality. I've always been the underdog, I've always been overlooked. I've always been the guy where it was like we'll see what he does and then we'll check on Lou. That's been my career."

Masai Ujiri Promises To Have Canadian On Roster, Hints At Andrew Wiggins

Mar 10, 2015 12:52 PM

Masai Ujiri hinted strongly in an interview that the player he most covets for the Toronto Raptors is Andrew Wiggins.

Ujiri also promised that there will be a Canadian on the Raptors' roster at some point in his tenure.

“There is no doubt in my mind. . .during my time, even if my time is short, there will be a Canada playing for the Toronto Raptors, 100 per cent. I have no doubt in my mind, it’s something we think about every day, it’s something we study . . . the guys in the NBA, the ones outside the NBA, the younger kids, the kids in college, the kids playing overseas. We’re just waiting for that one to come.”

Jamaal Magloire is the only Canadian to have ever played for the Raptors.

Ujiri said he planned to hire a scout to concentrate on Canadian players “because the growth of the game here is so big.”

Ujiri was asked if there was one player he would love to see on the Raptors other than LeBron James.

“We all know who he is, I’m not even going to say his name,” Ujiri said, drawing cheers from the crowd.

In case there was any doubt, he added: “He might be Canadian.”
