The AP reports that Houston Rockets forward Maurice Taylor, who recently signed a six-year, $48 million contract, suffered an Achilles tendon injury while working out in Michigan and could miss the entire season, team officials said Tuesday.

Team Physician Dr. Walter Lowe said Taylor was en route Tuesday from Detroit, where the injury occurred during a pickup game. Lowe said he wanted to see the level of the tear before making predictions on recovery.

According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, team physician Walter Lowe is fairly certain the tendon is torn, though he hasn't seen Taylor yet.  He will perform the surgery on Wednesday.  While he says he'd like to see the injury first, Dr. Lowe speculated Taylor would be out 6 to 9 months.  Feigen points out the Rockets might be eligible to receive a medical exception of $3.25 million to spend on a free agent.  But, he points out, the league has been very reluctant to give teams that exception.
