Moments after George Irvine was fired as the Pistons coach, Jerry Stackhouse said he believed Michael Curry would be the ideal candidate to replace him.
Curry, however, never became a serious candidate, and President Joe Dumars hired former Indiana Pacers assistant coach Rick Carlisle after an exhaustive search.
But let's play the what-if game.
What if Dumars had turned to Curry and asked him to hang up his sneakers for a coaching whistle? Surprisingly, Curry said he might have taken Dumars up on such an offer.
"There are certain opportunities that only come so often," Curry said. "If there was an opportunity to do something very few people could do at age 33, I would definitely look seriously at it. Would I have accepted a certain position? I don't know."
