Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports: The night started with such promise, with Alonzo Mourning resembling the vintage version and the Heat surging ahead by 12.

But a fatigued Mourning leveled off, and the Heat bottomed out, scoring just four points in the fourth quarter of a 94-76 preseason loss at Detroit. Miami shot 1 for 15 in the fourth quarter, its only field goal coming on Sean Lampley's layup with 1:11 left.

After collecting 10 points, four blocks, three rebounds, three assists and a steal in the first quarter, playing all but the last 20 seconds, Mourning logged just 12 minutes the rest of the night with modest results -- four points, two rebounds, no blocks.

Said Pistons forward Ben Wallace: ``Zo's still good, but it's going to take a while to get back what he had.''

In other Heat news, Free agent center Chris Gatling wants to sign with the Heat, but hasn't ruled out Europe, a close friend said Friday. Miami has offered $1 million.
