The J.R. Rider era in Denver came to an end Tuesday, just 49 days after it started.

The Denver Nuggets waived the veteran guard, whose career has been marked by controversy, trouble and tardiness, though the team didn't cite any such problems in its decision. Taking Rider's roster spot is forward Calbert Cheaney, who's been sidelined since the preseason with a sprained left knee. Since Rider's contract wasn't guaranteed, there won't be any salary repercussions.
