Trey Ditto of the AP writes that Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who made a reputation for himself last year for criticizing officials, has hired a statistician to monitor the way games are being called.  He has found that referees call fewer fouls than they used to, even though there are more possessions and shots per game.  He has also found that younger referees are less likely to whistle fouls than older ones.  "If by chance the young ref is under your basket, you probably are going to get fewer fouls, and you think you have been taken advantage of," said Cuban.
