The Timberwolves have cut back a bit on playing zone defense, but not as much as it might appear.
"What's happened is we've incorporated so much zone into our man (to-man defense) that there's a lot of times we'll be playing man and our guys will call out zone, and we'll shift right into a zone for the last 12 seconds,'' Wolves coach Flip Saunders said. "Before, we'd start out zone and we'd go man the last 12 seconds. Now all of a sudden it's the opposite.''

It wasn't always easy in the first place to tell when the Wolves were playing their match-up zone. The mid-play switches make it tougher -- on fans and the opponent.

Saunders said the team has cut back on zone because the Wolves' man-to-man defense has been so tough.
