Jason Quick of the Oregonian reports: Bob Whitsitt said he plans to speak with the agent of former Blazers center Arvydas Sabonis next month at the pre-draft camp in Chicago from June 4-7, but he doesn't expect the 7-foot-3 Sabonis to return to the NBA.

"I'm pretty sure he is done," Whitsitt said.

Sabonis, 37, elected not to return to the Blazers last season and has since been living in Lithuania, where he owns a basketball team. He broke toes on his left foot last summer and remained out of action. However, he has told his Lithuanian team that he might play in some games in the future.

"But he told me if I ever read that he played, don't call him the next day thinking he has the bug," Whitsitt said. "But whether he plays with them or not, I will still probably call him and have the usual chit-chat."

Whitsitt has maintained that Sabonis has an open invitation to return to the Blazers, but he said it has become apparent Sabonis will not return.

"All I am telling you is don't expect some summer announcement that we are signing Sabonis," Whitsitt said. "I'm telling you it's like 99-plus percent that he is not going to play in the NBA again."

In other Blazer news: The Blazers will unveil a new logo as early as next month, and new uniforms probably will follow, Whitsitt said.

"We have done a lot of market research, focus groups and a lot of listening, and we have been looking at this for a long time," Whitsitt said.

The changes will be subtle, at least at first. The pinwheel logo used since the team's inception will be kept, but insiders say the positioning of the pinwheel will be more slanted. Also, a new alternate logo, featuring a basketball with wings, gradually will be pushed into the forefront.

"Nobody is going to be shocked or anything like that," Whitsitt said.

The uniforms still are under debate, but it appears the Blazers will add a touch of silver to them.

"The logo is further along than the uniforms," Whitsitt said. "The uniforms still have some more decisions. We are still looking for more samples. But the logo will be unveiled before the (June 26) draft."
