The Associated Press reports that Damon Stoudamire and Rasheed Wallace of the Portland Trail Blazers were ticketed for possession of marijuana on Thursday Night. The players were passengers in a sport utility vehicle that was stopped by officers just after midnight near Centralia, Wash., midway between Seattle and Portland. The Trail Blazers had played the SuperSonics in Seattle Thursday night.

``It's crazy,'' Wallace said in a hastily called news conference with Stoudamire Friday afternoon. ``All I've got to say about it is the truth will come to the light.''

Stoudamire, Wallace and the driver, 43 year old Edwin Smith of Portland were cited and released.

``First of all I just want to say we are talking about this today because me and Rasheed don't want this to become a distraction to our teammates,'' Stoudamire said in his brief statement to reporters. ``We're very sorry that this happened. We would like to apologize to everyone out there.''

This is just the latest in legal troubles for Stoudamire. He and his father were charged with felony possession of marijuana earlier this summer, but the charges against his father were dropped. In August, a judge declared the search illegal and rejected a prosecution request to use the marijuana as evidence. That ruling has been appealed.
