The Nuggets are expected to offer a contract to Golden State Warriors free agent Earl Boykins by early this week.

Boykins visited with the Nuggets on Wednesday in Denver with his agent, Mark Termini. Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe declined comment on the details of the potential contract offer. Termini said Golden State and other teams remain interested.

"He's a real good backup point guard, and he disrupts the game," Vandeweghe said. "We like him."

The 5-foot-5, 133-pound Boykins averaged 8.8 points and 3.3 assists last season. He ranked 14th in the NBA in free-throw percentage (86.5) and 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.0).

Boykins, 27, has had several big games against the Nuggets during his five-year career and has a reputation as a good fourth-quarter player.

"I've had some discussions with Denver since the visit," Termini said. "I'm not going to go into any detail or comment further about (the discussions). Some key people close to the Golden State situation have been lobbying for Earl to consider coming back to Golden State."

By signing with the Nuggets, Boykins could be reunited with point guard Andre Miller. Boykins and Miller were teammates with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the latter part of the 1999-2000 season and at times shared the backcourt.
