The topic of Bill Cartwright's job security has moved from the whisper stage to open and frank daily conversation.

And his days as Bulls coach could be dwindling.

Cartwright, who met to discuss team issues with Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf earlier this week in Phoenix, is staying calm despite the growing pressure.

That pressure didn't abate after the Lakers defeated the Bulls 101-94 Friday night at the Staples Center behind Kobe Bryant's 28 points. The Bulls, led by Jamal Crawford's 23 points, now have dropped 29 straight games stretching over five seasons on this annual extended November trip.

It appears more and more likely that if the Bulls go winless on the remainder of this five-game trip, general manager John Paxson will make a move over Thanksgiving weekend. League sources indicate Paxson is contemplating possible replacements, although no interviews have been scheduled or conducted.

"I'd rather not comment on Bill's status," Paxson said.
