Larry Brown and Latrell Sprewell got a lot more hugs and handshakes than cheers.

Allen Iverson spoiled Brown's return to Philadelphia, and Sprewell was a bust in his first game against his old team.

Iverson scored 30 points in the 76ers' 90-86 victory over Brown's Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night, while Sprewell scored only five points in Minnesota's 97-92 home loss to New York.

The Philadelphia crowd serenaded Brown with chants of ``Traitor! Traitor!'' and ``Fraud! Fraud!'' and yelled a derisive chant throughout the game. Signs also derided Brown, including one with his face on a turkey that read, ``Yo Larry, Stuff It.''

``It was a great experience regardless of those chants,'' Brown said. ``My kids learned a bad word.''

Brown spent six often-turbulent seasons in Philadelphia, helping rebuild a struggling franchise.

``I won and Coach lost. I never had that feeling before,'' said Iverson, who hugged Brown before and after the game. ``We always felt good together when we won and felt bad when we lost.''

Kenny Thomas added 15 points and 13 rebounds for the 76ers. Richard Hamilton led Detroit with 19 points.

Brown and Sprewell had some company Wednesday night, with Cleveland coach Paul Silas also coming up short against his former team in the Cavaliers' 82-72 loss in New Orleans.

In other NBA games, it was: the Los Angeles Lakers 120, Washington 99; San Antonio 109, Chicago 98; Toronto 99, Atlanta 97 in overtime; Boston 94, Orlando 92; Phoenix 121, Dallas 90; and Utah 83, Houston 76.

In Minneapolis, Sprewell was 2-for-11 from the field in his first game against the Knicks since being traded to Minnesota in a four-team deal this summer.

``It was nice to see those guys,'' Sprewell said. ``I don't have any animosity toward them.''

He also struggled Tuesday night in Indiana, failing to score and going 0-for-8 from the field.

``It's frustrating when you lose and don't play well,'' Sprewell said. ``Hopefully, next game, I'll have the opportunity to turn this around.''

Dikembe Mutombo had a season-high 18 points and 17 rebounds for New York, and Allan Houston scored 13 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter after missing two games because of a back injury.

Kevin Garnett led Minnesota with 25 points and 14 rebounds.

Hornets 82, Cavaliers 72

At New Orleans, Baron Davis scored 26 points and had eight assists to lead the Hornets past Silas' Cavaliers.

New Orleans fired Silas after last season.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas led Cleveland with 20 points, and LeBron James had 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. The Cavs have lost 30 straight road games.

Lakers 120, Wizards 99

At Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant scored 22 points and the Lakers took command early to extend their regular-season home winning streak to 23, eight this season.

The Lakers, playing without Shaquille O'Neal for the second straight game, have won four straight and seven of eight to improve to 12-3. O'Neal has a strained right calf muscle.

Devean George had a season-high 18 points, Derek Fisher and Kareem Rush added 14 points each and Karl Malone had 13 for the Lakers, who had eight players score in double figures.

Spurs 109, Bulls 98

At San Antonio, Tim Duncan scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half and had 10 rebounds for San Antonio.

Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Eddy Curry and Lonny Baxter had 19 points each for Chicago, which lost its second straight game under interim coach Pete Myers.

The Bulls, who have lost seven straight overall, are expected to hire former Phoenix coach Scott Skiles to replace Bill Cartwright, fired Monday.

Raptors 99, Hawks 97, OT

At Atlanta, Vince Carter hit a jumper with 1.2 seconds left, part of a season-high 43 points, to give Toronto its second road victory of the season.

Carter also forced overtime with a three-point play with 13.2 seconds left in regulation. Shareef Abdur-Rahim had a season-high 30 points for Atlanta.

Celtics 94, Magic 92

At Orlando, Fla., Paul Pierce scored 15 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter to help Boston hold off Orlando, extending the Magic's losing streak to 14 games.

Pierce also had eight rebounds and six assists. Tracy McGrady led the Magic with 24 points.

Suns 121, Mavericks 90

At Phoenix, Penny Hardaway scored a season-high 20 points, leading Phoenix to its highest point total of the season.

Joe Johnson led the Suns with 21 points, and Stephon Marbury had 18 points and 12 assists in the victory that was tempered by the loss of rookie forward Zarko Cabarkapa for at least six weeks.

Cabarkapa broke his right wrist after he was pushed by Danny Fortson while driving to the basket late in the game. Fortson was called for a flagrant foul.

Antawn Jamison led Dallas with 17 points. Dirk Nowitzki left in the first quarter after spraining his right ankle.

Jazz 83, Rockets 76

At Salt Lake City, Andrei Kirilenko scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half for Utah.

Yao Ming led Houston with 20 points and 10 rebounds, going 14-for-16 from the free throw line to help make up for a 3-for-15 night from the field.
