EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) New Jersey Nets coach Lawrence Frank is crediting his players for a chance to break the NBA record for wins to start a coaching career.

``There have been better coaches than me in this league who were not fortunate enough to have the talent that we have,'' Frank said.

``Every accomplishment we achieve is team-based. You have to practice what you preach. It would be hypocritical of me to think anything of this. I don't want to diminish it, but it's the furthest thing from my mind right now.''

Frank improved to 9-0 with the Nets' 105-85 win at Cleveland on Thursday, tying the league record achieved by Kurt Rambis of the 1999 Los Angeles Lakers and Buddy Jeannette of 1946-47 Baltimore Bullets of the American Basketball Association.

Frank, who replaced the fired Byron Scott on Jan. 26, can break the record Wednesday when New Jersey hosts the Atlanta Hawks at Continental Airlines Arena.

He says he considers Rambis a good friend, but had never heard of Hall of Famer Jeannette until last week.

``I know Kurt very well, but I have to say I didn't know of Mr. Jeannette until his name was brought up to me,'' Frank said. ``I need to learn more about Mr. Jeannette.''

Along with Frank's personal streak, New Jersey has won 10 straight _ all by double digits, to match the record set by the 1946-47 Washington Capitals. With a win against the Hawks, the Nets would also match the longest streak in franchise history, set by the 1982-83 team.

``All we've thought about is winning the game, not any record,'' Frank said. ``We need to win the game.''

Nets guard Jason Kidd said the team is well aware of Frank's chance to break the record, and of the coach's attitude toward it.

``I think it would be great for him, but I know he doesn't care about records,'' Kidd said. ``He wants to win every game and wants us to try to get better every night. He's focused and he's doing his job and that's rubbing off on us. Winning is what it's all about.''
