The Minnesota Timberwolves franchise has scheduled a press conference for Monday afternoon to present Kevin Garnett with the 2003-04 Most Valuable Player award, Jerry Zgoda of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting.  The presentation will be televised by FSN.

The Wolves called a 1 p.m. press conference for today "to make a major announcement regarding Kevin Garnett." NBA Commissioner David Stern traditionally has been present to make the presentation. San Antonio's Tim Duncan won the award the past two seasons. Garnett beat out Duncan and Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal, among others, for this season's trophy.

The award has been considered to be a formality for several weeks after samples of votes pointed to a landslide victory to Garnett. Despite leading the Timberwolves to their first playoff series win in franchise history this past week (being unable to win viewed as a flaw on Garnett as a player to many) this accomplishment had no influence on the voters as the ballots were due prior to the start of the playoffs.

This was a season during which he led Minnesota to a 58-24 regular season record and the Western conference's top seed. He was tied with Peja Stojakovic for the 2nd place in the scoring race with a 24.2ppg average and led the league in rebounds at 13.9rpg. He was named to both the All-NBA and the All-Defensive 1st teams.

Garnett and the Timberwolves start their campaign to reach the Western Conference Tuesday at home when they suit up against the Sacramento Kings
