Jason Kidd will perform a series of basketball exercises today to test his problematic knee and determine whether he will need knee surgery that could put him out at the start of the season.

By the end of the week, Kidd will know whether he will need surgery to clean out bone and cartilage in his left knee.
Rehabilitation would be three to four months.

"If we do the surgery, we'll do it as soon as possible to give me time to do the rehab to make sure I'm ready to go by training camp," Kidd said. "We've talked to a lot of doctors. It's a long, tedious rehab. The surgery is easy. The rehab is the hardest."

Meanwhile, Alonzo Mourning was on the golf courses with Kidd and told the media that his return is unlikely after a kidney transplant forced him to leave the Nets early in the regular season.

Mourning works out regularly but does not believe NBA basketball is in his future.

"Barring a miracle happening, no, that is not my intention," Mourning said. "My intention right now is to continue to focus on making sure that this new organ that I have in me stays in me. I don't want to go through that procedure again."
