Attorneys for the woman accusing Kobe Bryant of sexual assault are taking the public-relations offensive.

Appearing on network television to bolster the accuser's public image, the woman's attorneys tried to dispel the notion that negotiations are in the works to settle the civil suit against Bryant.

"We fully expect that case to be aggressively litigated," attorney John Clune said on the CBS "Early Show."

The criminal case against Bryant was dropped last week but the civil suit is going forward, seeking damages for an unspecified amount.

"Because this case has now been dismissed, Kobe Bryant cannot take the Fifth Amendment. He will have to testify. We'll have an opportunity to cross-examine him in a deposition under oath," Wood said Tuesday on CNN's "American Morning."

The attorneys maybe trying to strengthen their bargaining position by suggesting that damaging information about Bryant could come to light in the civil case.

"It's all an effort to manipulate public opinion with a long-term goal of procuring from Bryant a greater monetary settlement," Denver attorney Scott Robinson told the media.  "I'd be doing the same thing."

"She made some mistakes," one attorney said of the alleged victim who is his client. "This young girl was a true victim and (the public) will feel very sorry for what she had to go through and what her family went through over the last year and will have to put up (with) for the rest of her life. It's a real tragedy."
