Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars requested waivers on reserve point guard William ?Smush? Parker on Tuesday. The Pistons? active roster is left at 11 players.

Parker, who made the roster as a free agent training camp invitee, played in 11 games, starting one, this season. He averaged 3 points, 1 assist and 0.8 rebounds in 10 minutes per game. He had season highs of 14 points, four rebounds and six assists in his only start of the season against Charlotte Nov. 21. Parker also spent 19 games on the injured list due to back spasms.

Pistons head coach Larry Brown told Detroit radio hosts Mike Stone and Bob Wojnowski during an interview on WDFN today that Parker?s deal would have become guaranteed for the remainder of the season in just 48 hours. Parker?s game never really meshed with Brown?s pass-first requirement of point guards and the team will likely look for a better fit by extending 10-day contracts to a free agent or two soon. Brown also indicated that he personally called four other NBA coaches to recommend Parker. Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Woodson, Brown?s top assistant in Detroit last year, is likely among those who would be interested in the diminutive guard.
