Shooting guard Fred Hoiberg technically can't play for the Timberwolves this season because he's receiving his $1.7 million salary under the NBA's new amnesty program as a result of surgery for an aortic root aneurysm.

But don't be surprised if Hoiberg, 32, who intends to return to the Wolves next year and finish his playing career in Minnesota, considers signing with another NBA team in January or February if he recovers on schedule and his competitive desires overwhelms him.
