Mavs veteran guard Darrell Armstrong says he feels like a "player-coach'' during the NBA Finals, and although he has not played much during the postseason coach Avery Johnson says that Armstrong's contribution cannot be measured by his playing time.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Johnson often this season has allowed Armstrong to get the team together and lead critiques of the film sessions.

"I run it,'' he said. "I give my input. I know Avery had me go through one session about how to defend Kobe [Bryant].''

Armstrong is leaning toward a coaching career when he retires, although it sounds as if he wants to play a 12th season.

"I could possibly retire if we'd win the championship, but then there'd be that chance to come back and defend it,'' Armstrong said. "I haven't decided anything yet.
