Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said he expected that the Rockets would extend the rookie contracts of guards Luther Head and Kirk Snyder through 2007-08, the Houston Chronicle is reporting.

The Rockets have until the end of the month to extend Head's contract to a third season and Snyder's for a fourth season.

"I can't see why they wouldn't get extended," Van Gundy said. "I don't think it should be a concern. Both, seemingly, it should happen, unless something unforeseen occurs."

Head and Snyder have said they would like to have an additional season added to their contracts, but have not concerned themselves with their contract status this month.

"The only thing that can become a problem is if individual situations cannot be sacrificed for the good of the team," Van Gundy said. "It's something you have to be aware of. It's not something I worry about at all with Luther because I know him. I don't know Kirk or Bonzi ( Wells) as well. They have to keep a lazer-like focus."
