Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley has interviewed the six known candidates in line to fill voids at head coach and general manager/team president.

But don't expect a decision on either position soon.

Heisley indicated Thursday he would exercise patience while choosing a coach and executive to guide his franchise.

He said there is no reason to rush because "we're probably the best opportunity in the NBA right now."

Heisley spelled out a rosy and coveted basketball situation -- one in which a coach and team president would share a high level of autonomy given his ownership style.

"We've got a great group of young players. We've got the best chance in the lottery," Heisley said. "Honestly, I will probably wait until after the draft. ... It's very important to me that the man who picks us basically has an opportunity to look at everything and then considers us a place he wants to be. There's going to be some more ups and downs before we turn this thing completely around."

A league source with knowledge of the situation confirmed that Phoenix Suns assistant coach Marc Iavaroni and vice president of basketball operations David Griffin delivered their pitch during a recent interview.
