The Heat waived Shavlik Randolph on Monday, which is a good sign for reserve guard Carlos Arroyo.

Randolph and Arroyo were the only two players on Miami's roster without guaranteed contracts. The Heat are now carrying 14 players, one fewer than the NBA's maximum.

"This will give us a little bit of flexibility, in case we can make a move," coach Erik Spoelstra said.

Spoelstra also gave Arroyo a vote of confidence.

"I like what Carlos has done," he said. "He's got a great competitive spirit. Even in the game [Sunday] night, where we're getting throttled by 30, he's out there competing, very physical.

"For an undersized guard, he's got a lot of fight in him. I like that. It fits with what we do."
