Dwyane Wade shed additional insight into his impending free agency Thursday when he told the Sun Sentinel that plans for himself and other major impending free agents could be determined in advance of the July 1 start of the NBA  negotiating period.

Wade repeated previous statements about getting together with other prime free agents before both the NBA's July 1 start of the negotiation period and the July 8 start of the signing period.

Such a meeting with LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Joe Johnson would therefore come before teams would be able to enter the process. Until July 1, teams only can have contact with impending free agents who finished the season on their rosters.

"I don't know the date," Wade said of the potential meeting. "LeBron went through a very tough loss, so you've got to give guys time to get over things and get their schedules clear. But before July 1st we'll know what we're going to do and hopefully it's somewhere quiet."

The summit could also include other free agent players such as Amare Stoudemire.

"We've all discussed that. We all, at time when our schedules clear up, before it's time to make a decision, we all talked about all of us," Wade said of the planned meeting. "We're all friends first of all.

"I'm sure a lot of us, when you sit down and everybody puts a list together of opportunities they have, I'm sure a lot of us have a couple of the same opportunities, the same teams they're looking at. So I'm sure there's going to be discussion."

Two hours later, Wade's agent Henry Thomas said that talk of an actual summit is overstated.

"There is no summit that has been planned before July 1 or anything like that," said Thomas, who also represents Bosh and works with the same agency that represents James.

There is good reason for Thomas to walk back Wade's talk of a summit.  Concerted action among free agents before July 1 could be against league rules since all of the players will still be under contract with their current teams until that date.
