The National Father’s Day Council Wednesday announced that it has selected Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim as a 2011 "Father of the Year" Award recipient.

Boeheim is a four-time Big East Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005.

This past year, he and his wife Juli started the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation, a non-profit organization to benefit children in need.

“We are thrilled to honor Jim Boeheim as one of our 2011 ‘Father of the Year’ recipients,” said Stuart M. Goldblatt, Chairman of the National Father’s Day Committee. “Jim is a true leader on and off the basketball court, devoting his life not only to his own family, but to children everywhere who are suffering. He is an inspiration to all fathers.”
