LAS VEGAS – Kurt Rambis is expected to finalize a deal on Thursday to return to the Los Angeles Lakers as assistant coach, a league source told RealGM.

Rambis’ contract will run in correlation to Mike D’Antoni’s deal, which has two more seasons. Rambis has been around the Lakers’ summer league team over the past week, watching their entire win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday afternoon.

The Lakers are also closing a deal to add Johnny Davis to their coaching staff.

Rambis had been a popular player and coach for the Lakers, leaving the organization in 2009 for two seasons as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He has eight championships over his playing, coaching and managerial career.
