Jason Kidd will resume his duties as head coach next week.

Kidd underwent hip surgery shortly before Christmas and will return ahead of schedule.

The Milwaukee Bucks are 8-7 with Joe Prunty serving as interim head coach.

Kidd was forced to the sideline in December by the deteriorating condition of his right hip, which plagued him for the last few years of his playing career.

It was initially thought that Kidd would have to sit out until Februrary.

"It's been chronic for the last three to four years, since I was in Dallas the last time," Kidd said in December before undergoing surgery. "The pain has been to the point where I can't function. "I've taken all the medicine I can do. Talking to the doctors, there's really no good time to do the surgery. I have to fix myself, and then we move on and get back to work."
