The Los Angeles Lakers' original top target to become their next general manager was Bob Myers, who recently signed an extension with the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers are pivoting to Rob Pelinka as their top candidate. Pelinka has strong ties to the Lakers due to his years representing Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher.

Neil Olshey is another candidate though he's under contract with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Lakers assistant general manager Ryan West has a strong relationship and history with Pelinka, and would likely be considered a significant part of a new front-office regime.

Pelinka would have to divest from his business as an agent in order to become the Lakers' GM.
