Marc Gasol contends he will never ask for a trade from the Memphis Grizzlies regardless of how badly the team may fall off.

While the Grizzlies have been one of the NBA's most consistent playoff teams during Gasol's tenure, they have fallen off so far in 17-18.

"I have a responsibility to this city," Gasol said. "I'm not gonna quit, no matter what."

Gasol was asked whether that would stay the same if the Grizzlies fell 30 games under .500.

"I would want to see how we got there -- what the process is," Gasol said.

"But as long as [owner] Robert [Pera] wants me here, my teammates want me here, they think I'm part of the solution -- and not part of the problem -- that's all I need."

Gasol is due $24.1 million due in 18-19 and $25.6 million on a player option in 19-20.

If the Grizzlies approach him with a trade, however, Gasol would accept it.

"If they think it is best, I would do anything for this franchise," Gasol said.

While sources say there was real tension between Gasol and David Fizdale, Gasol still denies he asked for Fizdale to be fired.
