LaMarcus Aldridge has abruptly announced his retirement from the NBA after 15 seasons following an irregular heartbeat.

"For 15 years I've put basketball first," Aldridge wrote. "And now, it is time to put my health and family first."

Aldridge said that he experienced an irregular heartbeat during the Nets game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday.

Afterward, Aldridge said the irregularities worsened. The team had listed Aldridge as out with a non-COVID illness for their last two games.

Aldridge left a considerable amount of money (prorated at $5.8 million) on the table in his buyout with the San Antonio Spurs to join the Nets.
