The Dallas Mavericks are in negotiations with Nico Harrison on becoming the team's new president of basketball operations.

Harrison is a longtime Nike executive. Harrison has strong relationships with players throughout the NBA, including Luka Doncic, and has been pursued previously by other teams.

The Mavericks are also hoping to hire Jason Kidd as head coach. Dallas wants Harrison to work in tandem with Michael Finley.

"I think Niko Harrison and Jason Kidd were a package deal. They have a relationship that goes back two decades," said Tim MacMahon on The Hoop Collective Podcast. "Michael Finley, a Jordan guy, he's got a great relationship with Nico Harrison going back probably two decades as well."

Harrison played collegiately at Montana State from 1993 until 1996.

Harrison was in serious consideration for a position with the San Antonio Spurs that went to Brian Wright in 2019.
