"There is renewed optimism around" Kyrie Irving playing for the Brooklyn Nets this season, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.

It remains unclear whether Irving's return would be made possible by him meeting New York City's COVID-19 vaccine requirement or from the Nets allowing him to play in road games and practice at home.

Both the Brooklyn players and coaches want Irving to rejoin the team as soon as possible.

Kevin Durant has been in increased communication with Irving about his fit with the team and about life in general.

The Nets, led by team governor Joe Tsai, have been adamant about Irving being fully committed to the team for all games and not participating as a part-time player.
