When the Sacramento Kings were looking for a new general manager, Joe Dumars was heavily involved in the search. This was seen as odd at the time, because Dumars was known to have interest in the job himself.

Now, Dumars has left the organization, in part because he wanted to be given control of the front office. And again, the circumstances are a bit odd.

Dumars had just recently been a part of the team conducting interviews for the Kings head coach vacancy. But Dumars had reportedly told Sacramento governor Vivek Ranadive that he wanted to run the front office. Dumars wanted to report directly to Ranadive himself, with general manager Monte McNair's reporting relationship changed from Ranadive to Dumars.

Ranadive had no interest in changing the Kings front office structure. Dumars then took a job with the NBA league office.
