The NBA is ready to eliminate a play that has become one of the sport's biggest eyesores. The league's general managers discussed changes to eliminate the transition take foul by adding an increased penalty to those plays. The Board of Governors is set to vote on the issue in July.

In recent years, players have begun to give a foul in transition to stop opponent fastbreaks. This removes one of the most exciting plays from the game and often leads to the game bogging down.

The NBA is expected to have a penalty similar to the one the G League uses in these situations. In the G League, when a player gives a take foul in transition, the offensive team is given one free throw and then retain possession of the ball. This penalty has all but eliminated take fouls at the minor league level.
