Damian Lillard has requested a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Miami Heat are his preferred destination, according to multiple reporters. The Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers also have interest. Lillard does not have a no-trade clause in his deal with the Blazers.

Lillard is signed through the 26-27 season with a player option on his two-year, $122 million extension signed last offseason. Lillard was a Third Team All-NBA selection in 2023 as he was having a career season before he shut down with the Blazers in their effort to maximize draft position for the second straight year.

According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, Lillard contemplated asking for a trade when he met with the Blazers on Monday, but wanted to give them every opportunity to improve the roster at the start of free agency. Lillard, who turns 33 this month, made the decision to request a trade Friday evening.

The Blazers were widely expected to use their 2023 draft pick to upgrade their roster, but moving up to No. 3 made a trade where they got back equal value for the pick challenging.

"It's not going to be a big market," said Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN soon after news broke of his request.

"I think ultimately Portland still wanted time and was trying to see if there were some trades in the marketplace... But for Portland now they got a trade request from Damian Lillard and the expectation is they'll accommodate it."
