Pero Antic, Hawks Share Interest For New Deal

Mar 12, 2015 2:04 PM

Pero Antic wants to remain with the Atlanta Hawks as a free agent in the offseason, and the interest is mutual.

Antic is in his second season with the Hawks after signing a two-year, $2.45 million deal.

“He’s a good part of our core, our substance, our locker room,” Mike Budenholzer said. “Then, the way he plays on the court, I think he’s done a ton to be somebody you want to be a part of your team going forward.

“The summer and free agency is a ways off but we love him.”

Budenholzer Played Big Role In Hawks' Decision To Re-Sign Jeff Teague

Mar 10, 2015 2:50 PM

Mike Budenholzer played a big role in the Atlanta Hawks' decision to keep Jeff Teague in restricted free agency in 2013.

Budenholzer had been hired as head coach of the Hawks just shortly before that offseason. Budenholzer had scouted Teague coming out of Wake Forest and had met him through Brett Brown.

Teague's father, Shawn Teague, was a teammate of Brown when they were both at Boston University playing for a young Rick Pitino.

Teague's talents had been previously wasted under Larry Drew. Drew had been let go as head coach of the Hawks and wanted to sign him now that he was with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Teague eventually re-signed with the Hawks on a four-year, $32 million deal.

After Budenholzer was hired, he called Teague and said, “We’re going to do something totally different than what you’re used to.”

Teague was initially reluctant to Budenholzer's version of the read-and-react offense.

Hawks Expected To Sell For More Than $900 Million

Mar 4, 2015 8:36 PM

At least one group bidding on the Atlanta Hawks is prepared to pay in excess of $900 million for the franchise.

Mark Rachesky, chairman of Lionsgate Entertainment, has emerged as the most recent bidder for the Hawks.

Rachesky is not known to have previously expressed interest in purchasing a sports franchise, but he is regarded as a protégé of activist investor Carl Icahn.

Groups and individuals interested in the buying the Hawks, as well as the team's current ownership, were required to signed nondisclosure agreements which prevent them from commenting on the sale process.‎

The Hawks were valued in 2014 by Forbes at $425 million, but that figure was circulated before Steve Ballmer's purchase of the Clippers for a staggering $2 billion in a bidding process.

Allen will reassess his status for the 15-16 season.

Allen received interest from many title contenders, most notably the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks. The Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls also registered interest in Allen.

“Over the past several months, I have taken a lot of time to deliberate what is best for me,” Allen said. “I’ve ultimately decided that I will not play this NBA season. I’m going to take the remainder of this season, as well as the upcoming off-season, to reassess my situation, spend time with my family and determine if I will play in the 2015-16 season.”

Hawks To Sign Jarell Eddie On 10-Day Contract

Mar 4, 2015 8:09 AM

The Atlanta Hawks have reached agreement on a 10-day contract with Jarell Eddie of the NBA Development League’s Austin Spurs, league sources told RealGM.

Eddie -- the champion of the D-League’s Three-Point Shootout at All-Star weekend -- will join the NBA-leading Hawks on Thursday. Atlanta, which had one open roster spot, became the first team to clinch a playoff berth on Tuesday.

After a 37-percent three-point shooting season as a senior at Virginia Tech, Eddie has worked extensively on his stroke and made himself an accurate outside threat.

The 6-foot-7 forward has shot 42.2 percent from three-point range while averaging 12.1 points with Austin this season, attempting over six 3’s per game.

Eddie, 23, went unselected in last June’s NBA Draft. He appeared in the July Summer League with the Washington Wizards, and signed a training camp deal with Atlanta in October. Upon his release from Atlanta, Eddie briefly joined the Boston Celtics on a waiver claim.
