Thabo Sefolosha: Police Injured Me, Damaged My Reputation

May 31, 2015 12:16 PM

Thabo Sefolosha discussed the physical and mental toll that his leg fracture had, stemming from the incident with the NYPD.

"I was injured in the hands of the police, and it took away a lot from my everyday life," Sefolosha said. "From being able to help put the kids in bed, going up and down the stairs.

"We are talking about the stress that it has brought to the entire family, you know, my mom and dad in Switzerland, my brothers and sisters, my wife. Also, the damage to my reputation. I've had people texting me about what they saw in the newspaper and things like this. Every aspect of my life was affected by something like this, and I think putting light on the aftermath of something like this, I think that's also something that's important."

Sefolosha had gone out in New York to celebrate a 60-win season with a teammate.

"That night we had quite a bit to celebrate," he said. "We had secured the first spot in the Eastern Conference. And I like New York. It's a city I enjoy. I have friends there. So me and one of my teammates decided to go out and have a good time in the city.

"I'm looking forward for the truth to come out and for me being able to speak on it, but right now I think it's not the right time to do it."

Korver Believes In Hawks' Vision, Has More Fun Than Experience On Teams 'All About One Guy'

May 29, 2015 4:47 PM

The Atlanta Hawks are without a superstar but had the best record in the Eastern Conference.

“I think we’re just tired of hearing about that,” Mike Budenholzer told Grantland this week. “Everybody would like a superstar, but I definitely think you can win the way we are doing it.”

Kyle Korver was on the Chicago Bulls when Derrick Rose won MVP and prefers playing in the Hawks' team-oriented system.

“I’ve been on teams where it’s all about one guy,” Korver said. “This is way more fun. I believe in this vision, and I think we’re eventually gonna get it done.”

Hawks Offered Paul Millsap, DeMarre Carroll Longer Deals In 2013

May 29, 2015 3:07 PM

The Atlanta Hawks signed Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll on cheap two-year contracts in 2013, but the length of those deals are problematic as they are now free agents after outperforming those deals.

The Hawks offered longer contracts at the time to both players, according to sources.

Teams can go over the cap to re-sign their own players, but teams have a reduced version of that right for players coming off one and two-year deals.

Millsap’s maximum salary will be about $18.9 million, meaning that if Millsap wants his max — or thinks he can get it from another team — the Hawks will have to dip into their cap room to pay him.

The Hawks can sign Millsap to a deal starting at only $16.6 million per season if they go over the cap. If they use $19 million in cap space on Millsap, they would not have enough room left to re-sign Carroll.

DeMarre Carroll Won't Need Surgery Ahead Of Free Agency

May 27, 2015 12:36 PM

DeMarre Carroll won't need to undergo surgery as he hits free agency this offseason.

Carroll was playing on a sprained knee, as well as turf toe. Carroll was unable to put any pressure on his left leg or get any elevation.

Carroll said he probably would have been out three to four weeks had the injuries occurred in the regular season.

Carroll left the door open on a return to the Hawks pending free agency talks with other clubs.

League sources told ESPN's Kevin Arnovitz that the high appraisal for Carroll is four years and $50 million.
