Adam Silver Suggested Bucks Consider Hiring Danny Ferry

Jun 30, 2017 12:04 PM

Adam Silver advised the Milwaukee Bucks to consider hiring Danny Ferry when they began to struggle with who to hire as general manager.

Milwaukee ownership was not unanimous in elevating Justin Zanik for the job while another candidate, Arturas Karnisovas, wa given a promotion to remain with the Denver Nuggets.

Ferry is currently a consultant for the Pelicans and was open to discussing the job but never formally interviewed.

Ferry took an indefinite leave of absence and was eventually replaced when he was general manager of the Hawks after reading a racist scouting report on Luol Deng.

Both Ferry and Silver attended Duke.

Paul Millsap Has Discussed Sign-And-Trade With Hawks

Jun 29, 2017 6:30 PM

Paul Millsap is unlikely to return to the Atlanta Hawks this offseason as they pivot towards a rebuild with Travis Schlenk as general manager. Schlenk has suggested multiple times in the media that they may not be able to offer a contract to Millsap that beats a rival team.

The Hawks and Millsap have mutual interest in a sign-and-trade scenario.

"I know sign-and-trade discussions have already happened involving Millsap and the Hawks," said Brian Windhorst on The Basketball Analogy podcast.

The Houston Rockets have interest in signing Millsap and a sign-and-trade deal would help facilitate a move since they are short on cap space at present. The Rockets have been searching for a Ryan Anderson trade, but teams are requesting two first round picks to take on his salary.

Millsap could still sign outright with a team such as the Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets or Minnesota Timberwolves.

John Gambadoro of 98.7 in Phoenix reports Millsap will meet with the Suns at the start of free agency.

Hawks Seeking Paul Millsap Sign-And-Trade Interest From Suns, Kings, Nuggets

Jun 21, 2017 11:55 AM

The Atlanta Hawks have begun pursuing the sign-and-trade market for Paul Millsap with the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings and Denver Nuggets interested.

There was reportedly a revolt in the Hawks' locker room when they put Millsap on the trading block in the middle of the season, which led Mike Budenholzer to make him unavailable.

Budenholzer and Wes Wilcox have since been demoted with Travis Schlenk taking over general manager duties.

The Hawks traded away Dwight Howard on Tuesday, signalling their intentions of rebuilding.

Hornets Acquire Dwight Howard From Hawks

Jun 20, 2017 9:05 PM

The Charlotte Hornets have agreed to acquire Dwight Howard from the Atlanta Hawks.

Howard signed with the Hawks during the 2016 offseason on a three-year, $70.5 million deal.

Howard was already frustrated with his role with the Hawks at the end of his first season.

The Hawks hired Travis Schlenk to be general manager this offseason.

Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Hawks will receive Miles Plumlee, Marco Belinelli and the 41st overall pick for Howard and the 31st pick.

Andre Iguodala To Receive Interest From Jazz, Clippers, Bulls, Wolves, Hawks

Jun 19, 2017 12:00 PM

Andre Iguodala plans to give serious consideration to leaving the Golden State Warriors in free agency.

Teams would have to show Iguodala a vision of moving towards contention.

The Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks are expected to pursue discussions with Iguodala.

Iguodala could command as much as $20 million annually on the open market.

Golden State’s salary situation will be complicated, even with Durant possibly willing to accept approximately $3.5 million less in salary in a one-year deal to accommodate the re-signing of the team’s core players.

Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News reported last week Iguodala was expected to re-sign with the Warriors on a contract worth anywhere between $8 million and $12 million per season.

Hawks Concede Paul Millsap Could Get Better Offers On Open Market

Jun 15, 2017 10:12 AM

The Atlanta Hawks are unlikely to make a full max offer to Paul Millsap in free agency.

“We are going to make Paul our best offer,” Travis Schlenk said this week. “Will he have better offers? I don’t know. Do we want to keep Paul? Sure. I said last week, if you are building a team with all the things I’ve said, Paul checks all those boxes. He’s a hard-worker. He’s a good guy. He’s high-character. Skilled. He does all that stuff. We’d like to have him. The reality is, he might get better offers than we can make him.”

Millsap can sign for as much as $205 million over five seasons with the Hawks or $152 million over four seasons with a rival team. Millsap is currently 32 and this contract will take him into his late 30s.

Schlenk said he has met twice with Millsap’s representation with a breakfast meeting just after his hire and a tour of the team’s soon-to-be completed practice facility last week.

Hawks principal owner Tony Ressler has said that he was willing to do whatever is necessary to keep Millsap.

Al Horford, Hawks Were Strikingly Close On Contract Terms

Jun 14, 2017 12:09 PM

Al Horford left the Atlanta Hawks last offseason to sign a four-year $113 million deal with the Boston Celtics.

"You know Al Horford, they got really close with money," said Wojnarowski. "I can't ever remember a player and a team walking away from each other over less total dollars than Atlanta and Horford. It was only a few million dollars over what would have been a five-year deal."

The Hawks could have offered a five-year, $153 million max deal, but their best offer was a five-year, $136 million deal.

Horford decided to take less guaranteed money after the Hawks were unable to split the difference while having a new opportunity with the Celtics.
