Rajon Rondo will seek a second opinion on his torn right ACL, which may involve consulting with Dr. James Andrews.
"He (Dr. Andrews) is one that we're definitely considering," Rondo's agent Bill Duffy, told CSNNE.com. "If he's No. 1, there's a couple 1As and 1Bs we're looking at as well."
Rondo also hopes to speak with Adrian Peterson, who made a remarkable recovery from the same injury.
Andrews performed surgery on Peterson.
"He's distraught but he understands what he has to do," Duffy said. "We have to have him channel all that energy into getting stronger and healthy as soon as possible."
The Boston Celtics have recalled center Fab Melo from their NBA Development League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.
Melo, a 7’0” center, has appeared in 19 games for the Red Claws this season and has posted 11.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and an NBADL-high 3.8 blocks in 27.7 minutes per game.
Danny Ainge expects the Boston Celtics to have Rajon Rondo available for training camp in October after tearing the ACL in his right knee.
"Rajon will get surgery in 10 to 14 days, when the swelling is right and we anticipate that he'll back and as good as ever in training camp," Ainge said. "(Kendrick Perkins) Perk came back in six months and that's a little bit unusual and Adrian Peterson came back in six months and so did Wes Welker. I guess every body is a little bit different and [with] every injury there's some differences."
Ainge said he has no plans to make immediate trades or major roster changes.
While the Boston Celtics have shown exploratory interest in Rudy Gay, the Memphis Grizzlies are unlikely to make a trade for Paul Pierce.
The Celtics, for their part, are also not likely to add long-term money at this point.
It is far likelier that the Celtics will pursue Kyle Lowry, who has a cap-friendly contract.
In the wake of Rajon Rondo's season-ending torn ACL, Keyon Dooling says he would contemplate a comeback to the NBA.
"I'm not in shape, but yeah I would," Dooling said.
Dooling, who retired before the campaign, has spent time around the Boston Celtics all season long.
Dooling averaged four points for the Celtics last season.
Rajon Rondo has been diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee, the Boston Celtics announced on Sunday afternoon.
Rondo will miss the rest of the season and a surgery date is to be determined.
Rondo sat out Sunday's game against the Miami Heat with what the Celtics called a hyperextended right knee, which he suffered in Friday's double-overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Now, Rondo, who was voted as a starter for the Eastern Conference All-Star team, will rehabilitate a gruesome knee injury.
Rondo averaged 13.7 points, a league-best 11.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game this season. In his final two games of the campaign, Rondo notched triple-doubles.
The Boston Celtics have held exploratory trade talks with the Memphis Grizzlies on Rudy Gay.
More than one team has speculated that a three-way trade that would send Pau Gasol to the Celtics, Paul Pierce to the Grizzlies and Rudy Gay to the Lakers makes "some sense".
Pierce's $15.3 million salary for next season is guaranteed for only $5 million, which would make his contract tradable.
The Boston Celtics have "ramped up" their interest level in J.J. Redick.
It was reported last week that the Celtics expressed strong interest in the Orlando Magic guard, who's having a career season, averaging almost 15 points and 4.4 assists.
Shooting from the two-guard spot has been a void for the Celtics throughout the season.
