Al Jefferson Plans To Exercise $13.5M Option For Next Season

Apr 16, 2015 6:44 PM

Al Jefferson said he does not plan to opt out of his $13.5 million option for the 2015-16 season.

"I’ve got unfinished business here. That’s not even an option for me," Jefferson said. "Unless something dramatic changed, I can’t see myself opting out, and leaving that bad taste in my mouth. And in the Charlotte Hornets’ mouth. I can’t walk away from that."

Jefferson finished the season averaging 16.6 points and 8.4 rebounds and shooting 48 percent from the field.

"I wasn’t the player I need to be to get this team to the next level," said Jefferson, 30. "I’m still a young man with a lot of great basketball in me. Like coach (Steve Clifford) always says – the responsibility (to lead) is with him and the best players. I’m disappointed in myself. I’ve got to redeem myself."

Lance Stephenson said he does not regret signing with the Charlotte Hornets, leaving the Indiana Pacers in the process.

"Not at all," Stephenson said. "I love this system. I love my coaches. I love my teammates. Some people come into systems and fit right in. Some people it takes time. I feel like with me, I'm going to take time."

The Hornets gave Stephenson a three-year, $27 million deal this past offseason.

Stephenson has averaged 8.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists this season compared to 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists last season.
