LeBron James' Camp 'Shocked' By David Griffin's Comments

Aug 1, 2019 7:46 PM

Sources close to LeBron James were "shocked" at the way he was characterized by David Griffin in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

Griffin and a person close to James spoke after the SI story was published, sources told ESPN. Griffin said some context was missing. James' camp encouraged Griffin to clear things up on the record.

Griffin told Sports Illustrated that he believes James winning a title in Ohio also has affected his mindset on the court and wondered whether James is more preoccupied with other priorities.

"There wasn't a lot else for him," Griffin said. "I don't think he's the same animal anymore about winning."

David Griffin Was 'Miserable' During Tenure With Cavaliers

Aug 1, 2019 7:43 PM

David Griffin left the Cleveland Cavaliers after the 16-17 season as he was unable to agree to a new contract.

But Griffin revealed this week that he had made up his mind about leaving the Cavaliers before then.

“Everything we did was so inorganic and unsustainable and, frankly, not fun. I was miserable,” Griffin said. “Literally the moment we won the championship I knew I was gonna leave. There was no way I was gonna stay for any amount of money.”

Griffin stepped away from the league for two whole years before joining the New Orleans Pelicans.

“I didn’t watch the league, and I didn’t love the game anymore,” Griffin said. “I was so fixated on outcome that I just totally lost my joy.

“I was kind of chomping at the bit to do it right.”

With the Pelicans, Griffin will have the opportunity to build over the long-term.

“Culturally, I’ve always wanted to raise a family at a team,” Griffin said.
