The Cleveland Cavaliers and J.R. Smith agreed to push back the guarantee date of his contract to July 15th, league sources told Joe Vardon of The Athletic. 

The agreement gives the Cavs more time to find a trade for Smith. In exchange, the guaranteed portion of Smith's contract rises from $3.9 million to $4.4 million.

Smith last played an NBA game on November 19th. 

The Cleveland Cavaliers have shown limited interest in engaging in Kevin Love trade discussions, sources tell ESPN's Zach Lowe.

Love's contract extension starts at $28.9 million this season, then goes to $31 million over Year 2 and Year 3, before going back down to $28.9 million in 22-23.

The Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz have frequently been mentioned as possible trading partners for Love.

Jordan Clarkson has switched agents and signed with Rich Paul and Klutch Sports.

Clarkson, who has one year left on his contract, is the fourth Cavs player to be signed to Klutch after Tristan Thompson, JR Smith, and Darius Garland. 

Brian Windhorst recently recounted a story in which people around the league joked that the Lakers could field an entire roster of Klutch clients. 

J.R. Smith is expected to become a free agent this offseason.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are attempting to trade the contract of Smith, which is partially guaranteed.

"When he's waived, it is my belief he will end up with the Lakers," said Chris Haynes.

Smith played with LeBron James as members of the Cleveland Cavaliers and he is also a client of Rich Paul.

The Minnesota Timberwolves traded up from No. 11 to No. 6 as they didn't believe a difference-making player would be available to them that far down in the lottery.

The Wolves had a top tier of five players: Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, RJ Barrett, Darius Garland and Jarrett Culver.

The Wolves had discussions with the New Orleans Pelicans on moving up to No. 4, as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers on No. 5.

Minnesota eventually traded up to No. 6 with the Phoenix Suns and selected Culver.

The Wolves reportedly had Garland ahead of Culver, but Cleveland took him at No. 5. Atlanta selected De'Andre Hunter at No. 4.

The partially guaranteed contract of J.R. Smith is appearing to not be as valuable as they previously thought, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

The Cavaliers kept Smith away from the team since late November, but they didn't cut him because they viewed his contract as a valuable trade chip.

Smith only has $4 million of his $15 million salary guaranteed, but it counts fully for trade purposes. The Cavaliers were hoping to acquire a first round pick for Smith's contract.

The Cavaliers need to finish the 19-20 season below the $132 million luxury tax line, which leaves them little margin for error in taking back a contract as part of the Smith trade in order to acquire a draft asset.

“We’re definitely going to investigate what we can do there,” Koby Altman said. “There’s a pain threshold in doing it.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers preferred to take De'Andre Hunter over Darius Garland in the draft, league sources tell Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

The New Orleans Pelicans traded out of No. 4 to the Atlanta Hawks, who selected Hunter and left Cleveland with Garland at No. 5.

The Cavaliers selected another point guard last year in the lottery as well in Collin Sexton.

Dean Wade has agreed to a Two-Way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Wade went undrafted out of Kansas State.

The Cleveland Cavaliers sent four second round picks and cash to the Detroit Pistons for the No. 30 selection, which they used on Kevin Porter Jr. According to Tim Bontemps, the Cavaliers also sent $5 million to the Pistons.

The Pistons acquired the pick from the Milwaukee Bucks on the eve of the draft for Tony Snell. 

The Cleveland Cavaliers are still listening to offers for the No. 5 pick.

The Cavaliers met with Darius Garland and they like him, but they also selected another point guard in Collin Sexton in the 2018 NBA Draft.
