Stephenson's Market Expected To Be Soft

May 31, 2014 1:04 PM

Lance Stephenson was nearly an Eastern Conference All-Star selection, but his free agency stock has dropped substantially since then.

Stephenson has annoyed his fellow Indiana Pacers' teammates and is now being perceived as an overall distraction after so many ill-conceived attempts to mess with LeBron James during the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Dallas Mavericks have a need for a player of Stephenson's skill-set and have a history of taking gambles on players, but they do not intend to pursue him in free agency.

Devin Harris Wants Long-Term Deal With Mavs

May 9, 2014 12:50 PM

Devin Harris would like to re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks, but he would like to sign a multi-year deal.

Harris initially agreed to a three-year, $9 million contract with the Mavericks last summer, but it was pulled when they discovered an issue on the big toe of his left foot.

The Mavericks eventually signed Harris to a one-year deal worth $1.3 million.

Harris would like to have that three-year, $9 million deal back.

“Obviously I don’t really know where [the negotiations] will go,” Harris said. “My intent is to come back, but like I said, only time will tell.

“I would rather not [sign a one-year deal]. It’s kind of tough to do, especially coming off surgery.”

Mavericks Prefer Traditional Center Like Gortat, Chandler Over Bosh

May 7, 2014 4:08 PM

The Dallas Mavericks won't be interested in Chris Bosh if he becomes available in free agency.

The Mavericks' immediate objective is to make the roster around Dirk Nowitzki good enough to compete for a title again, and they don't consider Bosh as a good fit.

Bosh and Nowitzki are two of the best jump-shooting bigs in the game.

The Mavericks would prefer to sign Marcin Gortat, or trade for Tyson Chandler.

The Mavericks could also keep Samuel Dalembert as their starting center.

Mavericks Prefer Luol Deng Over Lance Stephenson

May 6, 2014 1:30 PM

The Dallas Mavericks are unlikely to pursue Lance Stephenson with their $30 million of cap space, according to sources familiar with their thinking.

Sources say Luol Deng is a more likely target to upgrade on the wing.

Deng was traded by the Chicago Bulls to the Cleveland Cavaliers in January.

Mavericks Optimistic Of Meeting With Carmelo Anthony In Free Agency

May 6, 2014 1:14 PM

The Dallas Mavericks are optimistic that they will have an opportunity to meet with Carmelo Anthony in free agency.

The Mavericks received a similar opportunity last offseason with Dwight Howard.

The Mavericks are already an elite offensive team and there's some fear that Anthony would represent too much overlap with Dirk Nowitzki.

Dirk Nowitzki Won't Sign Kobe Deal, Confident Mavericks Will Find 'Great Solution'

May 5, 2014 5:59 PM

Dirk Nowitzki has acknowledged he will take a paycut from the $22.7 million he made this season.

The key for the Dallas Mavericks and Nowitzki is to find a deal that will keep the star forward happy while allowing the team to continue to add talent.

“We want to get better as a team,” Nowitzki said. “And I’m pretty sure I’m not going to sign Kobe’s deal – unfortunately (Bryant signed a two-year, $48-million extension). We’ll find a good way where I feel respected for what I did and we still have enough money left for us to get great players in here. Cubes has been great to me and been loyal to me for a long, long time. I’m sure we’re going to find a great solution for everybody.”

A deal in the area of $10 million per year could work for the two sides.

Shawn Marion To Receive Interest To Return To Mavericks

May 2, 2014 2:18 PM

Shawn Marion is held in high regard by the Dallas Mavericks' management and both sides share interest in possibly re-signing when Marion becomes a free agent in July.

Marion would have to take a significant pay cut from the $9.3 million he made this season.

“I’m not looking at that right now,” Marion said, as the Mavericks face elimination against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 6. “We’ll talk about that when it’s done.”

Marion averaged 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds this season. He is expected to also receive interest from contenders such as the Miami Heat.
