Celtics, Mavs Interested In Hiring Kevin McHale As Consultant

Nov 19, 2015 11:28 AM

Danny Ainge immediately reached out to Kevin McHale following his dismissal from the Houston Rockets about a role with the Boston Celtics.

"I've always tried to get Kevin to come work with me and work with my big guys," Ainge told the Boston Herald. "I told Kevin that today. ... We've got a spot for him. I know we could figure something out for him in some capacity, but I think he's just in a wait-and-see mode.

"He appreciated me reaching out to him, but I think he's just going to lay low. He's probably got bigger and better things to do -- or more relaxing things to do."

The Dallas Mavericks also have interest in hiring McHale, who had him on payroll as a consultant in training camp in 2009.

"Maybe when the dust settles, I can get him out to teach the 'slippery eel' to Kelly [Olynyk] and Sully [Jared Sullinger] and Amir [Johnson]," Ainge told the Herald.

Parsons: DeAndre Jordan Not A Priority To Mavs Or Even Clippers

Nov 12, 2015 7:27 PM

Chandler Parsons played a key role in the Dallas Mavericks' recruitment of DeAndre Jordan, but sat out the Los Angeles Clippers' visit on Wednesday.

Jordan had nine points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes.

One of the reasons why Jordan considered signing with the Mavericks was for a bigger role on offense.

"He's not a priority to us. And by the looks of their team, he's not to them, either," said Parsons.

Dirk Nowitzki 'Definitely' Will Play Out Current Contract

Nov 12, 2015 12:00 PM

Dirk Nowitzki is nearing the end of his career but he plans to play next season, which will be the final season of his current contract with the Dallas Mavericks.

"I always said that when the body is hurting every day, and when you’ve got to do all this extra stuff to just play, I think that’s when it’s time to go," said Nowitzki "But I feel good. I feel good right now and I felt good this summer. I mean, we had a five-games-in-six-days for the (Eurobasket), and I got through that just fine. ... I felt good. I don’t need to pop a thousand pills to play or practice. So as long as that’s still good, and it’s still fun to go. I’m going to definitely ride this contract out (this season and next). I don’t know. We’ll see what happens after that."

Nowitzki talked about how difficult training is compared to the games.

"Once you play and you move and the competing is there, that will always be fun," Nowitzki said. "But the summers, man. The summers are a beast sometimes. I’m usually in Germany (training), so if I was (in Dallas) working out with four or five guys all summer, that’d probably be easier, but I’m by myself basically, so I’ve got to push myself every day. Get up in the morning, leave the kids (Dirk and his wife, Jessica Ollson, have a two-year-old daughter, Malaika, and a seven-month-old son, Max) and go work out like a maniac for a couple of hours. That’s hard. That’s hard. But the playing will always be fun."

Cuban Saved DeAndre Jordan Text Messages, Might Reveal Them At Some Point

Nov 11, 2015 8:34 AM

Mark Cuban said he saved all of his text messages from DeAndre Jordan and he might detail them at a later date.

Jordan agreed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks before reconsidering and eventually re-signing with the Los Angeles Clippers.

"Look, this is not thermonuclear war," said Cuban. "This is a basketball game, and for fans, it’s supposed to be fun."

Rick Carlisle, Mavericks Agree Upon Five-Year, $35M Extension

Nov 5, 2015 5:40 PM

The Dallas Mavericks have agreed upon a five-year extension with Rick Carlisle worth approximately $35 million.

Carlisle was widely believed to be in the final year of his second contract with the Mavs, but sources say the club actually held a little-known team option for the 2016-17 season.

Carlisle's deal is the richest in the NBA for any coach without a dual executive role.
