Rajon Rondo, Rick Carlisle Friction Had Been Building

Feb 25, 2015 11:03 AM

Rajon Rondo was benched for the final 20-plus minutes of the Dallas Mavericks' win on Tuesday over the Toronto Raptors following a profanity-laced confrontation with Rick Carlisle.

Rondo and Carlisle were arguing over play-calling responsibilities.

Carlisle stormed out on the American Airlines Center court to call a timeout and shouted at Rondo, who appeared to be ignoring a play call from the bench as he brought the ball up the floor.

Rondo responded by shouting back at Carlisle. They exchanged heated words for much of the timeout, with assistant coach Jamahl Mosley at one point stepping in front of Rondo to prevent the point guard and coach from getting in each other's faces.

"Well, it's an emotional game, and we had a difference of opinion," Carlisle said. "There was an exchange, and then in my mind, it was over."

Rondo declined to take questions with reporters after the game.

"Discuss with Rick," said Rondo.

Team sources told ESPNDallas.com that friction had been building between Carlisle and Rondo over play-calling responsibilities, the majority of which the coach has handled.

Jason Kidd had similar frustrations with Carlisle in his first season with the Mavericks.

Mark Cuban attempted to downplay the latest incident between Carlisle and Rondo.

"S--- happens. Not the first time, not the last time," Cuban told ESPNDallas.com. "It'll happen again. It's not just Rajon. It's a long season. In my 15 years, I've seen it happen more times than I can count, and we survive every time."

Rondo will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

Rajon Rondo Works With Dirk's Shot Doctor

Feb 23, 2015 3:53 PM

Rajon Rondo worked with Holger Geschwindner recently.

Geschwindner is the shot doctor of Dirk Nowitzki and is an official member of the Dallas Mavericks' coaching staff.

“Holger helps everybody,” Rick Carlisle said. “He spent quite a bit of time with him before the [All-Star] break, too. I’m pretty certain that work is going to be a positive thing.

“Holger is a brilliant guy when it comes to shooting. I don’t know if there’s anybody on the whole planet I would recommend more than him.”

Mavericks Considering Pursuit Of Larry Sanders

Feb 18, 2015 3:18 PM

The Dallas Mavericks have interest in Larry Sanders, though it is described as "cautious and complicated."

Sanders and the Milwaukee Bucks agreed upon a buyout on Wednesday.

The Mavs can only offer the veteran’s minimum to Sanders at this point.

Sanders is represented by Happy Walters, who has a strong relationship with the Dallas front office and also represents Amar'e Stoudemire.

The Mavericks also wouldn't pursue Sanders without speaking first to Monta Ellis, who was teammates with him in Milwaukee and had a confrontation during the 2013 NBA Playoffs.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports that there is presently no plan for Sanders to sign with an NBA team this season once he clears waivers.

Mavericks Releasing Ricky Ledo

Feb 17, 2015 4:29 PM

The Dallas Mavericks have informed guard Ricky Ledo of his release, creating roster space for Amar’e Stoudemire, a league source told RealGM.

Ledo, the Maviercks’ acquisition with the 43rd overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, has played sparingly in his first two pro seasons.

Ledo had two seasons remaining on his contract, both team options.

In 16 games over his NBA career, Ledo is averaging 1.3 points and 2.8 minutes per game.

Ledo, 22, has had strong performances in the Summer League and D-League, flashing the talent and skill at 6-foot-7 that has intrigued Dallas’ front office. He has averaged 16 points and nearly five rebounds while shooting 46 percent from the field for the Texas Legends this season.

O'Neal informed the Mavericks that he wasn't able to get physically ready to play in the NBA.

"I don't feel like I'm at that position now with just seven weeks of training, and I'm not comfortable making that commitment at this point," O'Neal wrote in a separate Instagram post. "The issue for me is timing and things feeling right. I'm a true believer of signs and listening and understanding life."
