Blake Griffin: Detroit's Ceiling Is Very High

Mar 20, 2018 10:28 PM

Nearly two months after being traded by the Los Angeles Clippers to the Detroit Pistons, Blake Griffin is feeling settled with his new team.

Despite their struggles this season, Griffin believes in the future of the Pistons.

“This summer we will have a chance to really jell, figure stuff out. I think the ceiling of this team is very, very high. We have a lot of different guys who can do a lot of different things who can affect the game in a lot of different ways. Getting Reggie back (Jackson) will be huge,” Griffin said.

Griffin believes his style fits with the history of Detroit basketball.

“I was born in ’89, I wasn’t really watching the true ‘Bad Boy’ era,” Griffin said. “But the [2000s Pistons] was right in my prime of falling in love with the game of basketball and watching everything. I definitely remember all of those teams. But the thing that I really like about Detroit is this city embraces the hardnose, gritty, hardworking teams and hardworking players.

“Not a lot of cities embrace that type of mentality. That is exciting to me.”

Pistons Interested In Chauncey Billups For Front Office Role

Mar 20, 2018 12:54 PM

The Detroit Pistons have reached out to Chauncey Billups about his potential interest in joining their front office to work alongside Arn Tellem.

The Pistons hired Stan van Gundy in a dual general manager and head coach role.

Tellem joined the Pistons in 2015 after a long career as one of the NBA's most powerful agents.

Billups was the Cavaliers' preferred candidate to run their front office last offseason but instead chose to remain with ESPN.

Stan Van Gundy Fined $15,000 For Criticism Of Refs

Mar 18, 2018 8:32 PM

Stan Van Gundy has been fined $15,000 for public criticism of the officiating, it was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

Van Gundy made his comments to the media following the Pistons’ 100-87 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on March 17 at Moda Center.

"It's embarrassing. It's embarrassing for them and embarrassing for the league," Van Gundy said of Saturday's officiating. "I've been here for four years and many more years before that, and I've never come in after a game -- never, never come in after a game -- and talked like this. That was embarrassing. We got absolutely screwed tonight."

Stan Van Gundy: Referees Embarrassing For NBA

Mar 18, 2018 1:18 PM

Stan Van Gundy was sharply critical of the officiating following Detroit's loss to the Blazers on Saturday.

"It's embarrassing. It's embarrassing for them and embarrassing for the league," Van Gundy said of Saturday's officiating.

"I've been here for four years and many more years before that, and I've never come in after a game -- never, never come in after a game -- and talked like this. That was embarrassing," he said. "We got absolutely screwed tonight."

While Van Gundy credited Portland for how well they played, he still noted that he thought the refs made a big difference in his team's loss.

"A big part of [the Blazers'] defense -- they play very hard, I don't mean to take anything away from them -- but when you can get away with playing like that and get screwed that badly by the officials, your defense is going to be pretty good," Van Gundy said.
